At the recent launch of Airtel Touching Lives in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu says as he commends Airtel on it’s Touching Lives initiative - “Airtel is walking with in Lagos state, as we are concerned about the vulnerable ones in our society....”
Life in the Omishakin Axis Community has become unbearable. The transformer services up to 10 major streets with more than 5,000 homes. This has created a huge load burden on the communities using it. Within two weeks of the installation, the transformer usually develops a fault, dipping residents into darkness for days. This has affected the water supply in the area, as well as those that have the means to dig boreholes and can commercialise or give out for free water to neighbours who don’t have.
Despite many attempts informing Ikeja Electric, they’ve had no response, not to mention talk of a solution that can assist the community. The quality of life in the area is becoming extremely uncomfortable and the community is getting impatient and starting to become vocal. Due to the overpopulation of the area a safety risk has emerged, as water is now a very expensive commodity. As community members argue over water, more and more social tension is erupting, and so the Omishakin community has become a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
Airtel Touching Lives intervention brings hope and peace to the community.
